Stourport on Severn

Stourport-on-Severn, often called Stourport, came into being in 1768 through the completion of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canals.  From this time Stourport became one of the major distribution centres for goods coming into and being dispatched from the West Midlands.

The town today is more of a tourist destination. There are both the natural features, such as the majestic River Severn, and the man-made features, including the canal basins and locks.  The latter  are maintained by the Canal and River Trust who do a wonderful job in turning this once highly industrial area into a beautiful and tranquil location.

Kit used: Sony A6000, Sony Zeiss 16-70mm F4, Sony 20mm F2.8, Panasonic GX1, Panasonic 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 and Panasonic 45-150mm F4-5.6.

Winter Trip to Bern, Switzerland

In December 2015 I had a business trip to Bern, Switzerland.  I was only there for three days and most of the time was to be taken up with meetings.  Therefore, I had limited shooting time, most of which was at night, , and so I decided to focus mostly on the town itself, which isn't such a bad thing, especially as it was the Christmas period and the Winter Market was open.

The original town became established in 1191. The buildings were predominantly built of wood and a fire in 1405 caused major damage resulting the the town being rebuild in sandstone.

These buildings have survived without any major catastrophes, such as a world war, to today - albeit that a lot of them are now modern shops.

The old town of Bern is not only beautiful in the architectural sense but the surrounding river, old bridges and distant mountains all add to the tranquility of the environment.

While in Bern I had a couple of hours free one afternoon and so I took a tram to Wabern and then the funicular railway to Gurten Park, Gertenweg. While I didn't have the right lenses with me, as I was travelling very light, I did manage to capture one or two photos of the Park, the mountains (in the distance) and the Bel Etage hotel.

On the subject of travelling light, the all equipment that I took with me was a Sony A6000, a Zeiss 16-70mm f4, a 20mm f2.8 and a Manfrotto MTPIXI-B. Each of these items I could fit in my coat pockets.

For a city break, Bern has something to offer visitors no matter what time of year - Plus the food is varied and good, if a little pricey by UK standards.

I hope that you enjoy.
